The words “classic” and “Concorde” should never be in the same sentence. Now lift it, make it a 4x4 wagon and call it an Eagle and then we can talk.

Maybe the Henry Ford museum will want it. I bet this is a horrible car.

The Eagle never got the 4.0, only the 4.2. But the blocks are externally identical, so it’s a super easy swap.

I’ve only seen one such example on CL before in my area, it was the 4.2 I guess! Even had AWD/woodie esque exterior a la PT cruiser. Perfection.

Not only Malaise, but AMC, too. Worst of both worlds. Please move on folks, nothing to see here.

How could this thing have been deemed acceptable at any point?! That is my fascination with malaise era GM.

Just about all of AMC cars were strange. I had a neighbor growing up who always bought Ramblers. Most were the ugliest things you could imagine compared to what the B3 were making. Even their performance cars were way lacking in performance and looks. But, that is why they are no longer with us.

The Concord (no e) was AMC’s attempt to update the Hornet with more “luxury.” It didn’t fool many people.

All Eagle wagons are AWD. It’s basically a lifted 4x4 Concorde. Since AMC didn’t have much of a parts bin to pull from, the AWD is based on Jeep components, so lots of the drivetrain is swapable with XJ Cherokee parts. It’s a sinch to put proper a transfer case with low range in there as well.
I won’t say they’re common in my area, but you see them every now and again. Just the other day I missed a turn and drove by one sitting in someone’s driveway. I also see them (usually in poor shape) being used as winter beaters in the city.
I want one too.

AWD standard? These cars keep getting stranger. And that’s a great parts bin to draw from! Now I want to make my own “hybrid.” 4.0 swap, lift... lockers... mini rooftop tent... done!

A good article.
Everything AMC did was weird. They would actually have been doing pretty well for themselves if they could only sell the cars, but they just weren’t normal enough to compete. Their engineering department was so good that when Chrysler took over, it looked more like AMC engineering had taken over Chrysler, the way Chrysler remodelled to match it.

Well... that was pretty damn fascinating. Hy Vo chains? Eagle coupes? What is this nonsense. And of course Chrysler bought them... I don’t know anything about American cars (obviously lol) but I’ve developed an unhealthy interest in MOPAR lately...
